oCOSMO CE4001/CE4001-A is an entry level 40 inch FHD LED-backlit TV with 1080p resolution, 16:9 cinematic widescreen image aspect ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness, 60Hz refresh rate along with 8 ms response time and 178 degree vertical and horizontal viewing angles. oCOSMO is obviously not LEG, Samsung or Sony but has more than twenty years of experience in the sound and display industry (oCOSMO Inc. was established in early 2013 though), with connections to the Asian TV and panel manufacturers while do the product development and marketing and offer customer support in US.
Brushed metal texture glossy black oCOSMO CE4001 weighs 19.3 pounds, measures 36.7 x 8.7 x 23.8 inches- has an attractive design with fairly slim plastic bezels (half an inch wide at the top and sides but an inch wide at the bottom) and has a swivel angle of 25 degrees. Picture is sharp and with Full HD and colours are decent and vibrant, for sound you have the 2 x 10 watt speakers, sound equaliser, 5.1 channel digital audio output and SRS TruSurround HD. It has decent connectivity options including 3 HDMI ports- and one of them with MHL and ROKU support, a USB port, Composite, Component, VGA, Analog Audio Out and Headphone output, and you also have the power, volume, menu, channel and select buttons on the side. It is an Energy Star qualified TV with an estimated annual energy cost of $12.30 consuming 48 watts in calibrated picture mode and down to 42 watts in energy saver mode, which is well below the cost average and range of similar- 40 to 44 inch models.
Apple TV would work nicely on this TV as it comes with enough number of peripherals and ports that support Apple TV. This is not a Smart TV and not a 3D TV but one of the HDMI ports is compatible with HDMI and Roku and happens to be also an MHL port to connect your smartphone. It has a USB port which doesn’t support videos but the pictures and music and you can connect flash drives of up to 2GB size. Black plastic remote control is 9.5 inches long and has a somewhat busy look but the main buttons that matter are easy to identify and press. So we can’t say it is particularly rich in features but is rich in terms of image quality (despite the occasional harsh colours) and is very low in price- very affordable and the customer satisfaction seems to be very high, which is confirmed by 614 reviews on Amazon on the day of this review and this model averages 4.5 out of 5 stars- It offers very decent performance overall for the price. So if brand name is not a big deal for you but getting an HDTV with a superior picture quality at a very low price is, then do check this no-frills TV out. It comes with a 12 month limited parts and labour warranty by the manufacturer.
