HP ENVY x360 15-u110dx Convertible Laptop via Amazon
Silver and black HP ENVY x360 15-u110dx is a 15.6 inch versatile 2-in-1 convertible touchscreen laptop that you can use in tablet, tent, stand and laptop modes so you don’t have to pay for both tablet and laptop as you’ll have them in one unit, with a 5th generation Intel i5 processor, large storage and memory, crisp and clear FHD display and more, offered at a not cheap but fair price. So the HP Envy x360 includes the modern dual core Intel i5-5200U processor (3 MB L3 cache) at 2.2 to 2.7 GHz speeds with Intel turbo boost (more performance when needed and power efficiency by staying at the base speed) and hyper threading for decent 4-way processing power, 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3L SDRAM memory at 1600 MHz for multitasking, 1TB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm spindle speed as spacious storage and average but fast enough read and write times with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection plus 25GB capacity Cloud based Dropbox for 6 months and the standard Windows 8.1 64 bit operating system.
15.6 inch WLED backlit FHD touchscreen with 1920 x 1080 pixel maximum screen resolution offers very crisp and clear picture and Intel HD graphics 5500 as a middle of the way integrated GPU that is commonly seen in these Broadwell processors (more capable than Intel HD 4000). You’ll experience better than average- decent sound quality from the stereo speakers and Beats Audio and if you want better sound just use good quality headphones or speakers and you have the front facing TrueVision HD resolution webcam with built-in digital microphone. Natural silver and black HP Envy x360 with horizontal brushing finish looks modern and attractive, weighs 5.3 pounds with measurements of 15.11 x 10.18 x 0.93 inches. Keyboard is full-size and backlit with numeric keypad for easier number crunching, 3-cell 43.5 WHr lithium ion battery should give you up to 5 hours of battery life depending on the tasks you’re working on. It doesn’t have an optical drive (many low cost external DVD drives on Amazon) but the fast 2×2 dual-band 802.11ac wireless (2×2), Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN with RJ-45, 2 x USB 3.0 ports for fast multimedia and data transfer, 1 x USB 2.0 port, 1 x HDMI output for connecting to your HDTV, Multi-format SD Media Card Reader for your files on memory cards, 45 W AC power adapter and Dragon Assistant software.
Conclusion: HP Envy x360 15-u110dx comes with a bit of bloatware which you may need to remove prior to use as is often the case with HP machines and CyberLink Suite (Media Player and Photo Director), Dragon Assistant and a month trial of Microsoft Office 365. It is responsive- works fast with the i5 processor (has a low energy design and longer battery life but is still an i5 so still a higher end of mid-range processors and you can comfortably run Photoshop and pretty much anything other than 2015 games at high settings- most games will work but just at low frames per second and resolutions) and 8GB memory (not expandable as the single memory slot is occupied but will be more than enough for the majority of customers), is a convenient 360 degree rotating ‘around the special hinge’ 2-in-1 tablet and laptop with a backlit keyboard and a Full HD display but not with IPS panel. It is an EPEAT Silver registered and ENERGY STAR qualified computer consuming 20-30% less than similar machines. 1TB HDD is only at 5400rpm but still serves the purpose and is good for the large size if you need a lot of storage space for your multimedia files. Larger screen is nice to have for viewing things better but as most 2-in-1 units have smaller screens as portability may be an issue it will come down to your personal choice and sound quality is better than competitors. Windows 8 is not great but at least you have the touch display and by the end of July you’ll be able to upgrade to the new Windows 10 and it comes with 12 month limited parts and labor warranty. HP Envy x360 not only offers the convenience of having a tablet and laptop in one with a cool design, but also a fast and powerful machine overall- a very nice one especially for the price considering hybrids can be rather expensive in general.
