13.3 inch ASUS C300SA-DS02-LB Chromebook
ASUS C300SA-DS02 is a 2016 release 13.3 inch Chromebook with a non-glossy high definition display, impressive battery life of up to 10 hours, the latest budget Intel Celeron N3060 processor (2 MB L2 cache), large memory for multitasking and small eMMC flash storage and is offered in three colour choices of black, red (DS02-RD) and light blue (DS02-LB). Quarter 2 2016 release modern dual core Intel Celeron N3060 has a Passmark benchmark score of 1054 as an entry level processor, runs at speeds between 1.6 to 2.48GHz speeds with turbo function depending on the requirements of the tasks at hand and has no hyper-threading functionality, 4GB LPDDRS onboard memory will help handle a fair amount of multitasking of several apps and browsers, 16GB eMMC flash storage (+ integrated TPM chip) is very small amount but on Chrome OS most things will be done on the internet and you will be relying a lot more on Cloud storage (you get 100GB of free Google Drive storage for two years but needs to be activated within 180 days) and the Chrome operating system is updated constantly in the background and is protected from malicious attacks as well (none of those non-stop Windows updates that you have to suffer).
Matte 13.3 inch HD LED-backlit non-touch display has the of 1366×768 pixel resolution which would be adequate for a small display Chromebook at this price level but don’t expect outstanding crystal clear image quality of Full HD with IPS panel- better displays exist, even for Chromebooks. Graphics card is the Braswell Intel HD Graphics 400 which would be basic / entry level by any means and will be fine for general multimedia stuff like videos and music and playing internet based games on Chrome browser. There is also a high definition webcam at the top of the screen to chat live with people or to take still snapshots but please note that there is no Skype for Chrome based systems but Google Hangouts, just like you have the superior substitutes like Google Docs and Google Sheets for the usual Word and Excel. You will not get a built-in CD or DVD drive but some modern connectivity options including 802.11ac wireless for up to 3 times the speed internet with more coverage, Bluetooth 4.2 to connect to other Bluetooth enabled devices, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI output and an SD Card Slot. It has an upgraded chiclet style keyboard with nicely spaced out keys, no numeric keypad and a rather large multi-touch precision touchpad.
Black Asus C300SA is made of solid plastic- not aluminium but is certainly well built, weighs only 3.1 pounds with measurements of 13 x 0.9 x 9.1 inches- lightweight and compact, has a lithium ion battery that promises as much as 10 hours of battery life for video playback at default brightness and you can be outdoors all day long without worrying about battery recharge. This is a decent entry level computer if all you’ll do is surf the net, watch movies, listen to music and that sort of stuff- more online than offline and the modern Celeron processor and 4GB memory give you enough power to switch between browsers and apps smoothly and be power efficient at the same time and you’ll be fine in both indoors and outdoors- things will look nice and bright on its matte display. And with decent sound with Asus-enhanced chambers- speakers are better than adequate. It boots up and resumes from sleep fast, runs fast overall, has a decent build quality, is lightweight, has a great battery life and includes an integrated TPM chip that protects your data with the best type of security and your system files will remain unaffected.
