Samsung UN40H5003 is a decent mid-range 40 inch Full HD 1080p resolution LED edge-lit TV with good looks and great picture quality. It has a Clear Motion Rate of 120 with a 60Hz refresh rate so there will not be much motion blur at all during action movies or sports and features like Wide Color Enhancer Plus that offers a larger range of realistic and enriched colors for when you’re watching movies and shows or gaming and a bright display but doesn’t come with extra fancy features like Smart hub, online streaming, web browser, or 3D functionality- and you probably can’t expect at this price range.
Samsung UN40H5003 is a lightweight (can be easily moved around) but durable TV like any other Samsung brand TV’s. It has a solid design (not a slim profile and not particularly thin bezels though but nice design anyway), is very easy to set up and operate with easy to use functions, looks nice but has the standard black outer frame and a single stand- wouldn’t look out of space in any room (suitable for living room and bedrooms). It has a 39.5 inch diagonal display, weighs 16.8 pound, has the measurements of 36.1 x 23.3 x 9 inches with stand and 36.1 x 21 x 3.7 inches with stand and has pretty standard connectivity options like 2 x HDMI inputs and 1 x USB to connect other high resolution video and audio, 1 x RF, 1 x Composite In, 1 x Component In and 1 x Digital Audio Out (Optical). The square stand is removable and the TV can be mounted on a wall (200mm x 200mm VESA compatible).
Not having a smart functionality is a pro and not a con for some customers as they simply do not like seeing many devices connected to their TVs and makes this TV an easy plug and play with trouble-free set-up. You will get it working properly with the on-screen menu for different image and sound functions. One of the customers pointed out that the brightness is not even throughout the screen and they see that problem on every other TV (?), we feel that this is probably that customer specific issue as it is not reported by tens of others. It comes with proper full-range down-firing 10W built-in speakers with enhanced bass and DTS Studio Sound with optimized surround sound and auto volume-leveler that offer better quality than similarly priced 40 inch TVs. There is also an optical interface to output sound to an external sound system.
The price tag on Samsung UN40H5003 is quite competitive for the specs and features it offers and the Samsung brand. By specs we don’t mean the bells and whistles like Smart or 3D functions you may or may not need but the things that make this a good quality TV with impressive overall performance, picture and sound quality and great value for dollar. Being a 1080p FHD TV you experience superior picture that is true-to-life with sharper details and vibrant colors- almost impossible to notice any faults with image quality. You can view photos and videos from a USB stick through the USB input. This Samsung does what it is supposed to do quite well and is priced very competitively for one of the best TV brands in the world. Image is judder free and distortion is greatly reduced during fast motion action stuff thanks to the CMR of 120 (60Hz refresh rate). Being an Energy Star 6.0 certified unit, it will save you on energy costs- it consumes 1W in standby and 99 kWh per annum. It doesn’t offer many picture quality options and settings but most people will be more than satisfied what comes as standard. The On-Screen Menu is in English, Spanish and French and it comes with a standard remote control with batteries and a User Manual and 1 year warranty.
