Garmin RV 780 GPS Navigator with Traffic

Garmin RV 780 is the brand new advanced GPS navigator with Traffic feature specifically for the RVs and camping enthusiasts as its name suggests. Being a very new release GPS navigator it only has a few reviews at Amazon.com and other sites so far, but they are mostly positive.

The RV 780 has a bright 6.95” high resolution edge-to-edge touchscreen for you to see the important instructions and the graphics clearly. The custom routing feature considers the weight and the size of your vehicle to offer you the best possible route. Low clearances will also be taken into account on your RV profile.

When the custom routing is not available in some areas you can put in your details- trailer or RV information and wait for it to give you route suggestions. But please note that you are not always guaranteed that this info will be used in all the suggestions. Multiple vehicle and trailer profiles can be saved as well. You will get road warnings for things like sharp curves, weight limits, and steep grades. The upcoming elevation can also be viewed clearly so you can be better prepared for what’s to come on the road.

Garmin RV 780 comes with an RV parks and services directory and some built-in content from public campground directories, KOA, PlanRV, iOverlander, Foursquare, Plan TripAdvisor etc. and you can filter the provided information by amenities, price etc. To see the rest areas or campsites on your route you can just use your finger across the map. You can conveniently pair this Garmin with your smartphone for smart notifications and access to hands-free calling and voice-activated navigation. You just need to make sure the GPS and Bluetooth are enabled on your smartphone.

There is a free of charge Garmin Drive app on iTunes and Google Play that you can download on your paired phone to get info on weather forecasts, live traffic conditions, and photoLive traffic cameras. It is a plug and play type of GPS navigator that you can use straight out of the box with the traffic cable included in the box. The maps and software will get updated automatically and free of charge with a wireless internet connection.

The RV 780 weighs just 1 pounds and measures 6.8 x 0.7 x 3.9 inches. You may be familiar with the Garmin 770 model and this new 780 version has the extra directories, content, extra vehicle profiles and updated user interface and other features. It doesn’t come with an SD card but you can get a microSD card with a max size of 32GB. Garmin RV780 has the full coverage for North America- the US, Canada and Mexico. The WiFi link works pretty much for everything and this is an improvement on previous versions and other brands. You can connect it to your computer easily with a mini-USB/USB cable and works with Garmin Express, BaseCamp and more. A lithium ion battery is included in the box. It offers good value for the dollar overall from what we’ve seen or read so far.
