You can do anything you want with the new iMac that is very functional and that looks amazing. You may also purchase it with 512GB Solid Sate Drive storage by paying extra that you can check on Amazon.com product page. Your color options are blue, silver, pink and green, whichever you fancy. This brand new all in one desktop computer can be used for business, personal or multimedia use. You’ll get a magic keyboard (with Touch ID on the 8-core GPU model) and magic mouse included in the package and they are both color matched with the iMac.
The new Apple iMac 24″ has a rather beautiful design with its 11.5mm thick screen and looks good in different colors. 23.5-inch (diagonal) 4.6K Retina screen with the 4480 x 2520-pixel resolution, 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide color gamut and 1 billion colors offer a very immersive experience. Webcam on the brand new iMac is a 1080p FaceTime high definition camera with M1 image signal processor and offers a great video quality. It has the 3-mic array for very clear voice recording and calls that is reported to be studio quality. The sound is better than before- quite robust through the six-speaker sound system.
You can expect a very powerful performance from the latest M1 chip with the 8 cores on CPU and 7 cores on GPU, that is beyond what was offered in the previous version iMac’s with Intel processors. The 8 cores on the processor are 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores and there is a 16-core Neural Engine, all of which contribute to an amazing performance and speed that you’ll see in whatever you do. 256GB ultrafast SSD offers a good amount of storage space and plenty of speed that you will feel especially when you’re opening files. You can do a serious level of multimedia editing- photo and video even on the entry level version.
For connectivity you have the latest WiFi 6 802.11ax wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, 3.5mm headphone jack and there are only two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports (up to 40Gb/s) and configurable with Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 connector and up to two USB 3 ports. And you have the Thunderbolt 3 digital video output. In the box you will get the 24″ iMac with 4.5K Retina display, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, USB-C to Lightning Cable, a 2m power cord and a 143W power adapter. It weighs 9.83 pounds (4.46kg) and measures 18.1H x 21.5W x 5.8D inches.
You’ll need to use a dongle for Ethernet or other USB ports if you don’t configure it through Apple. The model that costs 1499 dollars at the time of this review has the Ethernet RJ-45 connector. If you want a numeric keyboard you can just purchase a Logitech brand through Amazon.com at a much lower cost than Apple. You shouldn’t have any concerns with the speed of the 8GB RAM as the M1 chip accesses the memory directly without going through the system bus. But please note that it can not be upgraded and you may want to pick the 16GB version at the beginning if you’ll need more RAM.
In performance this brand new iMac is reported to keep up with the latest high-end gaming laptops with the best processors and the advanced NVIDIA graphics cards. And these laptops offer about the same speed and performance as this new entry level iMac despite their much higher RAM’s in tasks where GPU isn’t involved. Please note that you’re limited to 2TB SSD storage and 16GB RAM even with the upgrades, there is no 10 gigabit Ethernet option, the connectivity ports are limited and there is a poor port selection. If you want portability you may want to go for an M1 Macbook Pro or Air and if you want more ports and a larger display you can purchase the M1 Mac Mini and a very large 27″ or 32″ display.
