15.6″ MSI GL62M 7RE-407 Gaming Laptop
MSI GL62M 7RE-407 is a recently released mid-range 15.6-inch laptop for gaming and high performance with a GTX 1050ti graphics card and great features like Nahimic Audio Enhancer, Steel Series keyboard and Cooler Boost 4. It comes with the Core H series powerful seventh generation Intel i5-7300HQ processor with a Passmark benchmark score of 6699, 8GB DDR4 SDRAM that lets you multitask efficiently, 256GB M.2 SATA Solid State Drive for plenty of speed when opening files and snappy feel overall and adequate storage size and Windows 10 operating system.
15.6 inch Full HD eDP Vivid Colour non-touch display offers the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and the images look very clear with vibrant colors. The panel is IPS and offers up to 178 degrees of viewing angles vertically and horizontally so you don’t get the blurred image and washed out colors at higher angles. Then you have the 94% NTSC Panel and True Color Technology for a better quality picture that is sharper and with more details. The GTX 1050i is part of the NVIDIA GTX 10 series with a 4GB video memory. And it has the video card benchmark score of 5824 at the time of this review that makes it quite a powerful graphics card and will help turn this laptop into a powerful gaming machine.
You will experience much quicker performance and energy savings with things like silicon optimizations, advanced processing system and the energy saving microarchitecture. 8GB is an adequate amount of memory for high multitasking power but some advanced users may need more and it is upgradeable to 64GB. RAM or SSD upgrade may be a little hard to do, though, by the user as they need to open it up. The Steel Series keyboard with the optimum WASD zone is not backlit but is great for gaming with keys that are nice to touch and are quite responsive. Numpad is also excellent with a great responsive feel to it. Nahimic 2 is a three-dimensional audio enhancement – virtual 7.1 surround sound will offer immersive gaming, with also the sound tracker function you will see where the sound is coming from.
Black and red MSI GL62M weighs 5.3 pounds and measures 15.07 x 1.06 x 10.23 inches, so it has the average size and weight for a 15.6-inch machine- neither slim nor lightweight, being a powerful gaming machine but certainly not bulky or heavy. It doesn’t have a DVD Optical Drive but a 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.1, an Ethernet port with RJ-45, a USB 2.0 port, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, an HDMI output, an SD Card slot, a Mini DisplayPort connector, a headphone jack, a microphone jack and a Kensington security lock. It is at the low end of the spectrum as far as the gaming laptop prices go, and mid-range price for regular laptops. It doesn’t get hot or noisy as the fans/ventilation is pretty efficient. Battery life is not very long if you use it for gaming, but our guess is an average of three to four hours. If you are on a budget or you do not want to spend a lot on a laptop, this offers a great option for its current price level on Amazon.
