ASUS EEEBOOK E403SA-US21 14-inch Intel Pentium Laptop

ASUS EEEBOOK E403SA-US21 is a March 2016 release modern, very slim and lightweight, fanless design, Signature Edition 14 inch laptop with a non-touch Full HD screen, faster 802.11ac wireless and battery that lasts all day on a single charge at a budget price and would make a great little computer for casual use. It comes with a quad core Intel Braswell Pentium N3700 processor at 1.6GHz up to 2.4GHz with turbo boost and without hyperthreading, 4GB DDR3L SDRAM for adequate multitasking power at this level, 128GB Solid-State Storage for speed, boot time and overall application performance but not very large in size so you may need to use an external drive or Cloud and 64-bit Windows 10 Signature Edition meaning clean computing experience  without the junkware, adware or bloatware installed. Passmark benchmark score of 1890 for he N3700 CPU indicates lower mid range system performance that will be more than enough for usual day-to-day tasks like Word, Excel, web browsing, chatting on Skype, video streaming and light gaming, combined with adequate memory and good size SSD. Brushed aluminium metallic grey Asus E403SA-US21 weighs 3.3 pounds and is only 0.7 inch thick as it measures 9.3 x 13.3 x 0.7 inches, 3-cell 57 Wh lithium ion battery is claimed to last up to 14 hours on a single charge as the system TDP is only 6 watts so you can be out and about all day without having to recharge but it may be a bit less than that in practice.

There is no Optical Drive and no built-in Ethernet with RJ-45 (both of which can be connected externally via USB ports) but decent connectivity for its size, such as the 802.11ac wireless with better speed and performance, Bluetooth 4.0, an HDMI output, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port and a USB Type-C. Chiclet style non-backlit keyboard is full size and is designed to last for about 10 million keystrokes and as the computer is fanless and without the heavy moving parts like a mechanical drive, it works quietly and stays cool even after hours of computing. Computers at this price point will very rarely have an impressive Full HD display and a decent size Solid State Drive so you will not experience lagging or slow performance unless you’re running very heavy multimedia or engineering software or playing demanding games and Windows and other software will boot up very fast. 4GB memory is mostly enough for what this ultrabook is designed for and can be upgraded to 8GB but we’re not sure how easy it can be done. Graphics card is the integrated Intel HD (Braswell) with shared memory and offers adequate daily multimedia performance but not much for gaming although it is twice as fast as Intel HD (Bay Trail), so only light titles can be played at good settings and frame rates. VGA webcam is OK for casual live chatting on Skype or taking still shots but the image quality won’t be as good as a HD webcam, which is one of the areas they cut costs on. We like the FHD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, 128GB SSD, slim and compact case and design, keyboard, faster ac WiFi with larger coverage and if you’re on the market for a compact machine that will perform your daily tasks well (but not very demanding software) then this is a good one to consider. You’ll get a year of international warranty that includes Accidental Damage Protection for a year.
