TiVo Roamio OTA HD DVR (Model TCD846510PLS) promoted as the world’s best DVR with advanced features is a streaming player and DVR in one with a very low price tag- is within pretty much anyone’s reach and the special “Product Lifetime Service” is offered as part of the package- so no 15 dollar a month subscription fee. You can record free HDTV OTA (Over-the-air) using an antenna (will work with all digital HD antennas and you may record four shows simultaneously as it is a 4 tuner DVR) and includes great integrated streaming apps. Black TiVo Roamio looks quite smart and modern, weighs 1 pound only with 7.4 x 14.2 x 2 inches of measurements. At the back of the unit you will see the cable/antenna input, digital audio output, A/V output for older TV’s if you have one, an HDMI output, Ethernet connection (and has integrated wireless), 2 x USB ports, E-SATA external storage port which you would need if you will be saving a lot of shows but it already has 500GB of storage included which will let you save as much as 75 hours of HD programming. At the bottom you will see a spot for a CableCARD but it doesn’t work with a cable card as it is designed for HD antennas only.

It is a great little unit for over-the-air viewers as OTA DVR’s are a bit difficult to find these days. You do not need a monthly subscription via TiVo (annual and life time fees work out to be cheaper) but Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services require separate subscriptions, being able to record four shows at once (less than the cable capable Roamio’s), may be an issue for some Quality of playback is really good, has an efficient and carefully planned search function, user interface is awesome, software is powerful, has the expandability option of storage space if you store a lot of content, gives you the option to pause and restart the live TV shows and you can use it with a TV Mini if you will be using multiple TV’s (so you don’t need to purchase more Roamio’s and price is really good for what it is.
