Samsung 32EH5000 FHD LED TV

Samsung EH5000 series LED edge-lit televisions come in 4 sizes (32EH5000, 40EH5000, 46EH5000 and 50EH5000) and they all have the same refresh rate of native 60Hz which is Samsung’s Clear Motion Rate of 120, 16:9 image aspect ratio and support 1080p resolution which means they are Full HD with no smart TV functions, have 2 x HDMI ports, 1x USB, 1 Component, 1x Optical, 1x RF in and 1x Audio Out/Headphone as connectivity and come with standard remote control. They offer great picture quality overall and really good value- not expensive for Samsung and such good picture. The major attraction here is the low price though.

Black Samsung UN32EH5000 weighs 14.6 pounds and measures 29.1 x 7.5 x 19.6 inches with stand, has a simplistic design and a very slim glossy black bezel for a budget TV but rather substantial at the back, we like the glossy finish and the arc effect at the bottom where it says ‘Samsung’. The ‘EH’  on the name rather than the ‘ES’ on other Samsung models is because it is not part of the slim line. It comes with a limited 1 year warranty by Samsung. It is quite easy to use but no web/online features, no D-Sub PC input (you can play back multimedia through the only USB port) or DLNA/Network functionality and the viewing angles are a bit limited unlike the IPS panels that are common on LG televisions and to get the online and smart TV features as well as a very slim design you will need to pay several hundred dollars more for a Samsung of this size.

Main focus here is on picture quality, Samsung seems to have maintained a Freeview HD tuner here and you will find a good variety of image adjustments with subtle selections. Sharp and clear visuals are offered by the CMR of 120 which translates to 60Hz native refresh rate, Full HD 1080p picture resolution and Wide Color Enhancer Plus for larger colour spectrum with improved colours even with non-HD stuff, better image quality with an advanced algorithm. Refresh rate or CMR is mainly for the fast moving images- sports and action movies and you’ll get decent clarity in motion and high-speed action. Image processor speed, backlighting and the frame refresh rate determine the CMR, measuring fast action. Brightness of TV is adjusted automatically to the amount of light in the room with the Eco Sensor feature, saving you on energy bills as well- consumes 39 watts of power when operating and 300 mW on standby which means 57 kWh per annum. It is an ENERGY STARV 5.3 compliant TV set that not only means less electricity consumed but also smaller carbon footprint.

Unlike the USB ports on many other budget models, on Samsung 32EH5000 you can watch videos as well as photos and music through its only USB port without needing anything additional- you just plug the USB into the TV’s USB port. Sound is provided by Dolby Digital Plus, DTS and Surround Sound and has features like Sound Leveler as well as Auto Program, Picture in Picture, Sleep Timer and Auto Power Off. It has protection from humidity, power surges and lightning. With stripped down feature list (such as only 1 USB port, no 3D or Smart features, no Wi-Fi and limited viewing angle) but very decent FHD picture quality and good sound, Samsung’s EH5000 series TV’s, especially the 32 inch model is a bit like Samsung’s bedroom TV offer, appealing to more customers thanks to its low cost and higher performance/price ratio with very subtle image adjustments such as for dynamic contrast, gamma flexibility, a white balance adjustment and a black tone booster.
