Quasar SQ5501U is a 55 inch Class LED backlit flat panel 4K Ultra HD with a 3840 x 2160 pixel native resolution, 16:9 image aspect ratio, 40,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 60Hz refresh rate that offers super sharp and clear picture quality with finest details for the best entertainment experience. For those that don’t know or are not familiar with the brand, Quasar is a North American brand of electronics and happens to be a registered trademark of Panasonic Corporation of North America in USA and Canada- they are more the value oriented products than Panasonic brand of Matsushita.

Quasar SQ5501U’s screen is 55 inches measured diagonally, it weighs 38.7 pounds without stand and 41.8 pounds with stand, measures 49.5 x 29.3 x 3.5 inches without stand and 49.6 x 31.6 x 10 inches with stand- looks good with thin bezels, slim frame and modern stand. Connectivity options include 2 x HDMI 1.4 inputs, 1 x HDMI 2.0 input for increasing bandwidth up to 18Gbps for proper digital connections, a USB connector that can play a JPEG file as well as music and video playback, Component Video input, Composite input, a Coaxial digital Audio output, a VGA port D-Sub 15P for connecting to PC, a Mini Stereo jack headphone output and an F connector Antenna input. So you have pretty much all the connection options that you could ever need. It has a very functional remote control and Multi-Language On Screen Display- OSD, with multilingual menu in English, Spanish and French. It has a built-in NTSC/ATSC TV tuner offering HDTV broadcast reception.

Quasar SQ5501U 55inch class LED 4K UHD TVYou’ll experience vibrant and superior picture quality with the higher brightness and deeper blacks and brighter whites with improved contrast.  Response rate (time required for a pixel to change from one luminance level to another) is 6.5 ms and refresh rate is 60Hz to help reduce motion blurring so it should be OK in fast moving stuff- action movies and sports- 120Hz would be better but we have not seen it in action yet so would be hard to tell. On specs the viewing angles are 176 degrees vertically and horizontally and this is what you’ll find on IPS panel TV’s so the image quality will not be distorted at up 176 degrees. We don’t have much information on the quality of sound, except for the two 10 watt speakers that should be adequate for a budget 55 inch 4K TV, you probably shouldn’t expect a lot in terms of sound- it is a regular TV offered at low cost and there are always soundbars if you need more in terms of sound. It is an Energy Star qualified product and consumes less than 1 watt on standby mode and a maximum of 180 watts in operation with an estimated annual energy cost of $37 (cost for similar screen size models range between 24 to 73 dollars). Overall it looks like a really good value TV with a nice design and decent picture and sound quality on paper, considering its technical specs and features offered at such low price.
