MSI GL62 6QF-893 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop Review

15.6″ MSI GL62 6QF-893 Gaming Laptop with GTX960M

MSI GL62 6QF-893 is a 15.6 inch modern and lightweight upper mid-range gaming laptop at an affordable price with the sixth generation powerful i7 processor, Full HD display, GTX 960M graphics card, 802.11ac wireless, Steel series keyboard, very large storage with a hybrid SSD and HDD and great multitasking power of 12GB memory. So it is quite a high end machine in terms of technical specs: September 2015 release- quad core Skylake Intel i7-6700HQ processor at 2.6GHz speed up to 3.5GHz and hyper-threading for four cores to run eight threads in parallel and with a Passmark benchmark score of 8031 that helps with better gaming performance and 4K video transcoding for extreme gaming and multiple app data processing, faster 12GB DDR4 at 2133MHz / DDR3L at 1600MHz SO-DIMM memory for superior multitasking so you can run several browsers and apps at the same time and on two slots and expandable up to 32GB, 128GB Solid State Drive placed through the m.2 slot and 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 7200rpm spindle speed (SATA-SSD Combo: 1 x 2.5″ HDD + 1 x NVMe M.2 SSD) and Windows 10 operating system that boots up faster and is generally much more preferred to the older generation Windows 8 and 7.

MSI GL62- especially the version with 128GB added in hybrid form is capable of handling extreme multitasking and very complex multimedia or other programs and very demanding games. 15.6 inch Full HD LED-backlit display has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 94%NTSC wide-view panel vertically and horizontally and great immersive sound through 4 speakers with the Exclusive Audio Boost Technology and Nahimic Audio Enhancer and a HD webcam (30fps at 720p) for Skype chats and games. Black MSI GL62 is not very bulky or heavy despite being a powerful mid-range gaming machine, weighs 5.3 pounds and measures 15.07 x 10.23 x 1.06 inches- relatively slim and average weight. It has a non-backlit full-size keyboard with 10-key numpad and a functional trackpad with separate left and right click buttons. For connectivity you have the DVD-RW Super Multi Optical Drive, 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, Ethernet, Media Card Reader, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 1x USB 3.0 Type-C port, Mini-DisplayPort and Mic-in/Headphone-out.

And the 120W AC Adapter and the internal 6-cell lithium ion battery that can’t be replaced easily as it can not be accessed externally without removing the bottom plate. For how much it costs as far as the gaming machines go it certainly seems to be very good value as it has everything anyone may need on it and runs very smoothly with the latest games at high frame rates per second and high settings and resolutions. Apart from the GTX960M dedicated graphics card that lets you play all the latest games at high settings and resolutions except for games like Assassin’s Creed which will require lower settings and resolutions- frame rates will depend on whether you play at Full HD resolution or HD+ 1600×900 pixels with games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Crysis 3, you have the integrated Intel HD 530 graphics that can be compared to GeForce 920M in performance  that the machine will switch to automatically for less demanding tasks to save on energy usage and is still good for playing the latest games but at much lower resolutions and settings than the GTX960M. With this machine you will not need to make any compromises on FPS or resolutions and settings and not so demanding titles like Sims 4 and Dota 2 can be played at very high settings.
