LG Electronics 32LB520B via Amazon
LG Electronics 32LB520B is a modern 32 inch 720p HD Ready LED (Edge-lit) TV with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. Being a LED TV it has the very small, power efficient light transmitting diodes to help offer vibrant colours, sharp and clear image, deep blacks and good performance in different lighting. Picture quality is high definition- it is not Full HD but quite frankly to notice the difference between HD and FHD you need a TV that is 40 inches or bigger. LG 32LB520B has no Smart Hub or 3D functionality (which would be impossible at this price level) but has the gaming mode and a good range of connectivity and is a great entry level simple TV with decent picture and sound.
You will find 2 x HDMI for Full HD picture and surround sound via one HDMI cable, a USB input to get photos and MP3 from USB devices, a Composite (shared), a Component, 1 RF In and a Headphone jack input. It has a 31.5 inch screen to be exact- when measured from corner to corner, depending on how big your flat or rooms are it would be suitable for living room or bedrooms. It looks good, weighs 11.4 lbs without stand and 12.3 pounds with stand, measures 28.9 x 17.3 x 3.6 inches without stand and 28.9 x 19.3 x 7 inches with stand. LG televisions uses Motion Clarity Index to define the fast-motion performance in action and sports and this TV has an MCI of 120 which is an equivalent of 60Hz refresh rate so you will get adequate performance and fairly less motion-blur than normal, it is not extraordinary but pretty good for a budget 32 inch TV with overall good quality.
It has the Picture Wizard to let you make certain adjustments in picture and 2 ch speaker system (2 x 5W) and Dolby Digital Decoder for quite good sound quality. It meets Energy Star specification so will be easy on your energy bills (Energy Star TV’s consume 30% less electricity on average than the regular models)- 0.3 W in standby mode. It is very easy to set-up straight out of the box and has an easy to use remote and on-screen menu, gives you certain degree of flexibility for calibrating the display via Picture Wizard. Cons include the location of ports making it hard to link devices (but this would become a pro if the TV is mounted on a wall) and the design of power cord (is not the replaceable sort but is attached directly to the TV and you need to take the TV to tech support to get damaged cable fixed), the lack of enough zoom options, no Smart and no 3D and you can’t play videos from USB on this TV.
But LG 32LB520B offers great display for the price- low cost TV with very good picture quality. Sound is quite all right too, serves the purpose and soundbar is not really needed. Don’t expect the extra bells and whistles as you are not really paying for them and if you will not need the 3D or Smart functionality, why pay the premium? This one doesn’t even need that much adjustment to get the colour, sharpness and contrast right but easy via Picture Wizard if you need it. Although it is not a Full HD TV, it does handle 1080p and 1080i input quite well. You will not see pasty washout problems and no grain in colours and much better than average image and sound quality, great specs and a very low price- especially for LG brand. You will find 7 picture modes on Picture Wizard and 5 sound modes and 6 modes for aspect ratios. It can be mounted on a wall with VESA size of 200 x 100 mm. It comes with a 12 month parts and labor warranty by the manufacturer.
