HP Spectre X2 12-A008NR (N5S21UA#ABA) is the mid-2016 release modern, stylish, sturdy and ultra thin Windows hybrid tablet-laptop with a high end keyboard, a 12 inch WUXGA Full HD display, 10 hour battery life and silver aluminium chassis- it actually stands out most with its beautiful design and picture quality and is for those that appreciate good looks and modern functionality of innovative features and performance of the great Core M processor. So the technical specs include the dual core Intel Core M3-6Y30DC processor (4MB cache) at 0.9GHz speed up to 2.2GHz, 4GB LPDDR3 SDRAM onboard memory for adequate multitasking power of modern apps and web pages, 128GB M.2 Solid State Drive for high speed and some space to save your important regular or media files and Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system. 12 inch WUXGA FHD touchscreen has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and with IPS panel you have very large viewing angles up to 178 degrees vertically and horizontally.
You have two webcams- 8 MP rear webcam for taking good quality photos in tablet mode and a 5MP front facing webcam for live Skype chats. Intel HD 515 graphics card has a 2095 MB video memory can handle less demanding games like Dota and Counter-Strike and the overall performance is reported to be around 40% faster than the Broadwell Intel HD 5300. It is a very slim and compact machine that can be used both as a notebook and a tablet and doesn’t include an optical drive but some advanced connectivity including the better wireless internet with the 2×2 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth with WWAN, a USB Type-C port and a Headphone-Out/Microphone-in on the left side of screen and SD Media Card Reader and another USB Type-C on the right and you will get the USB-C to USB 3.0 Adapter in the box so you can connect your peripherals easily like you would to a normal USB port. HP finish in natural silver Spectre X2 looks elegant and feels durable and premium, being made of single piece sleek, sandblasted aluminium with stainless steel kickstand.
It weighs 2.68 pounds (1.84lbs as tablet) and measures 8.23 x 11.81 x 0.52 inches (0.31 inch thin as tablet). Lithium ion battery offers long hours- up to 10 hours of battery life in normal use and has LTE- Long Term Evolution Network capability so you don’t have to worry about being near a power outlet all the time. You can make use of its ergonomic and comfy high end keyboard that is made of solid aluminium sheet and that clips magnetically to the display, in laptop mode and its beautiful Full HD touch display on tablet mode and will be resourceful in both modes. What we don’t love so much is the recessed 3.5 mm U-shaped kickstand and the very thick bezels on screen but the kickstand leaves more space for battery and the tablet can go as far back as 150 degrees. You actually have a total of four speakers when you use the tablet attached to the keyboard- two on screen and two side-firing on the keyboard for some additional boost but we can’t say the sound is amazing, it is just adequate and you will have better performance when you plug in good headphones. For the relatively low price tag the Spectre X2 is a high end hybrid tablet with keyboard with decent functionality, performance and connectivity.
