Dell Optiplex 740 Desktop Computer

Dell Optiplex 740 is a desktop computer with a 22 inch LCD monitor, an AMD Athlon processor and Windows 7 operating system. Keyboard and mouse are included in this certified and refurbished desktop package by iCompNY- ‘certified refurbished’ is the main reason you’re getting a good deal for a decent desktop with 22” display, mouse and keyboard. A power cord, a recovery DVD, paperwork including customer service card and a 90 day warranty is included.

Dell Optiplex 740 comes with the dual core AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ processor (2 x 512K of L2 cache per core) at 2.0Ghz speed, 8GB DDR2 memory, 500GB SATA hard drive,  64-bit Microsoft Windows 7 Pro Operating System with an operating system disk to easily re-install (iCompNY is a Microsoft authorised refurbisher and hence the software you get will be genuine) and the low end built-in GeForce 6150 LE graphics card. Black and gray Dell Optiplex system weighs 13.1 pounds (total of 21.1 pounds) and has the measurements of 4.59 x 15.65 x 14.25 inches and a 280 watt power supply. Connectivity options include the 802.11bgn wireless, Ethernet network, DVD-CD ROM Optical Drive, 8 x USB 2.0 ports (5 at the rear, 2 at the front and 1 internal), Stereo line-in and Stereo line-out at the rear, 1 x Headphone and 1 x Microphone-in at the front, 1 x VGA port, 1 x parallel port and 1 x serial port, 1 x low profile PCIe x16 and 2 x low profile PCI.

Conclusion: Dell Optiplex system is easy to set-up as a simple plug and use, is fast and powerful for its price but the fan is reported to be a little noisier than normal. The AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ with a Thermal Design Power- TDP of 89 watts, Cool’n’Quiet technology and Enhanced Virus Protection enabled has a Passmark benchmark score of 1005 at the time of this review and is classified as a low to mid range CPU and lets you switch between programs without delays with decent multitasking power and will help accelerate multimedia apps. Graphics card is the weak and low end integrated GeForce 6150 LE so you can’t play any of the current games smoothly but you can play not so demanding games like World of Warcraft and Counter Strike Source at lower settings and resolutions with a few effects turned off but should be fine with photos and videos and overall it seems to be a good system for general home use- school work on Word and Excel or home entertainment.
