Dell Inspiron I5558-1415BLK laptop

Dell Inspiron I5558-1415BLK is a new budget and affordable laptop with a touch display and mid range features including the 4th generation low voltage i3 processor that helps with longer battery life and with enough power for both easy and demanding tasks  for day to day and lighter stuff- home or small office. It includes the Q2 2014 release dual core Haswell Intel i3-4030U processor at 1.90GHz fixed speed with no turbo boost feature but hyper threading for 2 cores and 4 threads and Passmark benchmark score of 2686, 6GB DDR3L SDRAM for good multitasking at this level (you won’t be using this machine for multitasking of super heavy stuff and if you need to you can upgrade it up to 16GB), 500GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm rotating speed that will let you save plenty of videos, photos and songs and 64-bit Windows 10 operating system that boots up and wakes up from hibernation much faster despite the lack of SSD. This is not a gaming machine as neither the power efficient ultra low voltage processor nor the built-in Intel HD 4400 graphics card with a videocard benchmark score of 548 (with a performance similar to a Radeon HD 7550M) is fit for that and there is no dedicated card on this one and you can play some of the latest titles at very low settings and older games at mid to high settings. 15.6 inch diagonal LED backlit high definition touchscreen with Truelife has the 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and 16:9 image aspect ratio, it is not Full HD and there is no IPS panel with larger viewing angles but it seems to be all right with clear enough image with good contrast and nice colours. And sound is adequate with the MaxxAudio through the stereo speakers.

Black Dell Inspiron weighs 5.1 pounds and measures 15 x 1 x 10.2 inches, so it is average slim and weight for a 15.6 inch machine (touchscreen adds some weight) but fairly portable in a backpack, also thanks to the 7.5 hour battery life. Webcam at the top and middle of the bezel is high definition and reasonable quality for your casual live chats or taking pictures. A SuperMulti DVD drive is included which is good news for those that will run programs or multimedia content- read and write from DVDs or CDs, as well as a USB 3.0 port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, 802.11bgn WiFi- Intel 3160 AC (1×1, at 433 Mbps) for wireless internet connection- more speed and range, Bluetooth 4.0, an HDMI output, 3-in-1 Media Card Reader that supports SD, SDHC and SDXC formats for data transfers to and from this machine, an HDMI output. It has a standard laptop keyboard that is not backlit but with 10-key numpad and a good size responsive touchpad. 4-cell lithium ion battery is claimed to give you up to 7.5 hours in average use on a single charge and you can probably expect this to be up to 5 hours in practice (TDP of 15 watts). Warranty is standard one year for parts and labor by Dell and you can return it within 30 days for a full refund if box is still not opened or if it arrives dead or damaged. This is not a very powerful machine by any means and as long as you haven’t set your expectations too high and you are on the market for a computer for watching videos, word processing and playing light games then this is a decent computer with enough power for office (you get a year of Microsoft Office trial), multimedia and multitasking at a fair price tag.
