Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series Laptop i5749-3333SLV

Black and silver Dell Inspiron i5749-3333SLV is a 17 5000 series 17.3 large screen multimedia notebook with a nice HD+ screen and the power of a desktop making a great home entertainment hub at a mid-range price. Latest generation ultra low voltage Intel i5 processor with a Passmark score of 3549 as of today and the large memory make it suitable for efficient multitasking and smooth running of all the daily or more demanding tasks- multimedia and office. Dell Inspiron i5749 includes the 5th generation Broadwell dual core Intel i5-5200U (3 MB Cache) at 2.20GHz – 2.70GHz speeds with turbo boost and hyper threading to better use the processor (two cores and four threads), 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM to multitask efficiently, 1 TB SATA hard drive at 5400 rpm rotating speed (large in size but slower than 7200rpm and SSDs) and English 64-bit Windows 8.1 operating system that is not the favourite of many computer users and you can upgrade it to Windows 10 some time in Summer or Autumn of this year.

Large 17.3 inch Truelife LED-backlit non-touch display has the HD+ 1600 x 900 pixel max screen resolution (with 37% more pixels than regular HD display- over 2 million pixels) which would be the minimum requirement for this size and Full HD would be better. Intel HD Graphics 5500 performs better than the previous generation Intel HD 4400 and will certainly let you play most of the latest 2015 release games but at low settings and resolutions at around 20 frames per second. Waves MaxxAudio and stereo speakers are claimed to offer studio level immersive sound with proper lows and highs- great for videos, songs and games. It has a HD webcam with 0.92MP for still and 1280×720 for video that is commonly found on Dell machines.

Sleek and attractive matte finish Dell Inspiron weighs 6.6 pounds and has the measurements of 1.10 x 10.60 x 16.20 inches- is a decent desktop replacement type of a machine rather than being portable for those that want to use the computer out and about but looks elegant and stylish in the hardened material- brushed aluminium, it has a great design and is lighter and slimmer than previous models. English non-backlit keyboard has a 10-key numeric pad for working on spreadsheets or numeric data easily and the intuitive decent size Precision touchpad without the separate left and right clicks (but a couple of customers pointed out that the trackpad is a bit noisy and not very comfy to use). It comes with an integrated Multimedia Drive Tray load DVD Drive, 802.11bgn wireless and Bluetooth 4.0 ( 2.4 GHz, 1×1), 10/100Mbps Ethernet, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, a full-size HDMI port, 3-in-1 Media Card Reader, FastAccess Facial Recognition and 65 Watt AC Adapter.

Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5749-3333SLVConclusion: Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series i5749-3333SLV is easy to set-up and comes with user-friendly features that make it easy to operate on a day-to-day basis. When you open the box you may be surprised by the premium quality feel of this laptop (that it doesn’t have much of a plastic) and it is tested for reliability and durability (heat, hinge, base, lid, keys, battery power and multimedia buttons). 30 day trials of Microsoft Office and McAfee LiveSafe anti-virus (to be replaced with free AVG or Avast) and CyberLink Media Suite Essentials are pre-installed. It doesn’t have a touch display and the graphics card is the Intel HD 5500 and there is not a separate dedicated graphics card as this is not a gaming PC.

The Intel i5- 5200U processor has the TDP of 15 watts that should help with a better battery life and although the 40 WHr, 4-cell lithium ion battery is not really big but should give you around 5 to 6 hours on average use. It comes with a single memory slot but 8GB is already plenty for majority of the users, however the system is easy to upgrade as you have easy access to the hard drive, RAM and wireless through the bottom cover: RAM is perfectly fine as it is, 1TB = 1024GB is a lot of storage and if you prefer speed and snappy performance then you may choose SSD over HDD but it still boots up fast the way it is. So if you’re on the market for a reliable and powerful machine with a larger display and great overall performance and speed including moderate gaming then this Dell is a great one to consider: Price to quality and performance is quite high and customer service by Dell is top notch when you need it and comes with 1-year Mail-in warranty.
