Asus VivoBook X540SA 15.6 inch Laptop Review

15.6 inch Asus VivoBook X540SA Laptop

Asus VivoBook X540SA 15.6 Laptop

Asus VivoBook X540SA is a budget 15.6 inch Windows 10 laptop with low end / entry level specs for good performance in your simple day-to-day tasks, like an ultra low voltage Braswell Pentium processor, average amount of storage and memory you’d find in lower priced machines and good connectivity. Technically speaking you have the fifth generation quad core Intel Pentium N3700 processor (2MB L2 cache) at 1.6GHz – 2.4GHz speeds with Intel Burst and no hyper threading (4 cores and 4 threads), 4GB DDR3L SDRAM to run different apps and browsers smoothly enough at this low price point- basic multitasking power, 500GB Serial ATA hard drive at the faster 7200rpm rotating speed and Windows 10 operating system. Pentium N3700 scores 1908 at the time of this review which indicates mid-range performance overall which makes it comparable to lower i3 processor so you will be fine as long as you don’t run extremely demanding multimedia or engineering software or use it for advanced gaming as what you have as a graphics card is the integrated Intel HD (Braswell). 15.6 inch energy efficient LED-backlit high definition screen has the 1366×768 pixel resolution and TN panel which is clearly not as good as FHD with IPS panel both of which would have added to the cost of the machine significantly.

Asus VivoBook X540SA 15.6 inch Laptop

Silver gradient IMR with hairline Asus Vivobook weighs 4.41 pounds and is 1 inch thick- measuring 9.9 x 15 x 1 inches, has a fairly contemporary design for a low end machine and gives you a good balance of screen size and portability. For connectivity it includes a SuperMulti DVD/CD Burner, 802.11bgn wireless, Ethernet with RJ-45 connector for wired internet, an HDMI output, a VGA port, 2 x USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, a Media Card Reader that supports SD, SDHC and SDXC formats, a Headphone/microphone combo jack and a webcam. It has a 3-cell lithium ion battery and with a Thermal Design Power- TDP of 6 watts, our guess is it should last around 5 hours on a single charge and palmrest will stay cool with the IceCool design. There is a bit of trialware you may want to uninstall- apps like DropBox, Zinio, Flipboard, EverNote, TripAdvisor (keep whichever you may need) and one month trial version of Microsoft Office 365 Personal and you will be fine with the built-in Windows Defender for virus protection. You’ll get a user manual and a standard warranty of one year for parts and labor by Asus, which is probably the best computer brand after Apple (some would say after Apple and Dell). If you don’t have a big budget or don’t want to spend a lot on a laptop and you’ll be using it for simple tasks like net surfing, videos, songs, Word and Excel and less demanding games then this Asus is a solid choice.
