Asus VivoBook 15 FHD Laptop with Ryzen 5
Asus VivoBook 15 (X512DA-BTS2020RL) is a 15.6-inch Full HD laptop with the powerful AMD Ryzen 5-3500U processor, Radeon Vega 8 graphics card, 8GB DDR4 memory, 512GB Solid State Drive and Windows 10 operating system.
It was released very recently at Amazon.com, only in August 2020 and the average user rating is 5 out of 5 stars by 3 users at the moment. The quarter one of 2019 release quad core AMD Ryzen 5-3500U processor (4 cores, 8 threads) works at a base speed of 2.2GHz which goes up to 3.8GHz with the turbo function. The average CPU PassMark benchmark score is 7150 at the moment. Ryzen 5 3500U processor is faster than the higher Ryzen 7 3700U by AMD and offers similar performance to the Intel i5-8265U. So it is quite impressive overall at the low price point.
Windows 10 Home operating system has the Windows 7-type Start menu and has the new features like the Microsoft Edge browser that lets you mark up pages on the web and the Cortana Personal Assistant. 8GB DDR4 SDRAM high bandwidth memory offers good multitasking power at this level but please note that the Vega 8 built-in graphics card shares the memory with the processor, leaving you about 6-6.5GB for other stuff, which should be adequate. You can run the applications and a few browser tabs smoothly at once without experiencing delays or freezing.
512GB PCIe SSD offers quicker data access, file opening and quicker start-ups and shut-downs, less heat production and battery usage (2 -Cell 37 Wh lithium polymer battery) and zero noise. And it is also good amount of storage space for most laptop users. Please note that both the memory and Solid State Drive storage can be upgraded. Connectivity options include the 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.1, a USB 3.0 port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, a USB Type-C port, an HDMI output, MicroSD Media Card Reader and a headphone/microphone combo.
There is no optical drive if you’ll need one at all. And if you will, you can just get one cheaply and connect it through one of the USB ports or Bluetooth. With the fingerprint sensor you can sign in very quickly with Windows Hello. You will not need to type in your password each time you log in. It has a full-size chiclet keyboard with a 1.4mm key travel and numeric keypad and a large touchpad.
The typical TDP- Thermal Design Power is 15 watts to help with a longer battery life with less power and heat production. The good quality lithium polymer battery charges up to 60% in just 49 minutes. Asus VivoBook 15 weighs 1.7kg and measures 14.06 x 9.07 x 0.78 inches. The 15.6″ Full HD non-touch frameless NanoEdge screen with a 5.7mm bezel for an 88% screen to body ration has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, great clarity, vibrant colors and decent contrast. And with the IPS panel you have very large viewing angles, both vertically and horizontally. Sound quality is pretty good through the large speakers with the Asus SonicMaster technology. Overall, with a mid-range price tag the technical specs and features the new VivoBook 15 seems pretty good value for the dollar.
