2017 Dell Inspiron 17 5000 i5759-7660SLV Touchscreen Laptop
Dell Inspiron 17 i5759-7660SLV Signature Edition is a 5000 series 17.3 inch desktop replacement type, large but slim laptop with a touch display, a backlit keyboard, an ultra low voltage sixth generation Intel i7 processor, very large amounts of memory and storage, a great range of modern connectivity options including the ac variety wireless, and an Intel RealSense 3D Webcam. It has an integrated Intel HD 520 with shared memory with a general performance level similar to the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 820M, that will offer you some gaming performance in some of the latest games at low to medium settings and let you run programs like Adobe Photoshop, Solid Works, Blender etc. without problems. But you will have better luck with an SSD if you intend to edit multimedia, run CAD for 3D design and modeling or anything very complex. And it is not hard to swap the mechanical hard drive with a Solid State Drive with the SSDs coming down in price as all you need to do is to take out the base cover and the removable battery to reach the hard drive. So you can have a quicker running computer overall- files will open way faster and the laptop will start up and shut down swiftly.
Silver Dell Inspiron is made of solid plastic and feels sturdy overall and has a current and contemporary design, weighs 7.40 pounds, with the measurements of 16.69 x 11.02 x 1 inches. The keyboard is backlit for typing comfortably in the dark but keys are not the best on the market and there is the Precision touchpad that measures 104 x 81mm and that seems to be responsive enough. Technical specs include the ultra low voltage dual core Skylake Intel i7-6500U processor (4MB cache) at 2.5GHz up to 3.1GHz speed with turbo boost and hyperthreading for two cores and four threads in parallel, 16GB DDR4 memory at 1600MHz for the best of multitasking and can not be expanded, 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 5400rpm spindle speed and the Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system. It can perform both your day-to-day office and multimedia and demanding CPU intensive tasks but is not a proper gaming laptop as it doesn’t come with a dedicated graphics card. 17.3 inch Full HD LED-backlit TrueLife touch display supports 10-finger multi-touch, has the 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and you’ll get more vibrant colors and darker blacks for your photos, videos or games. And the Dell Audio with Waves MaxxAudio Pro and the stereo speakers will deliver great sound quality.
It includes a DVD +/- RW Optical Drive, 802.11ac (Miracast enabled) WiFi for faster internet connection, Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100MBps Ethernet LAN for great wired internet access, a USB 3.0 port, 2 x USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 output, a Headphone output/Microphone input combo jack, an SD Card Reader and a Security Lock slot. 5400rpm speed on the Serial ATA hard drive is a bit slow but is not hard to add an SSD and the 16GB DDR4 memory is quite a lot for any kind of multitasking needs but in case the very advanced users need more memory, the 16GB total is the maximum amount allowed. Battery life is up to 5 hours from its 3-cell 43WHr lithium-ion battery depending on how you use it- you have a powerful 17.3-inch touch laptop with a Full HD display so you can’t expect an amazing battery life despite the ultra low voltage processor. You won’t find Microsoft Office or junkware (Signature edition laptop) that you may not need on this machine so it all runs smoothly from the start. Passmark benchmark score for the Intel i7-6500U processor is 4408 at the time of this review, which indicates it is high-end to midrange processor, FHD touchscreen is nice, the laptop looks modern and has a sturdy build, plenty of memory and storage and a decent range of connectivity. You’ll get the standard one year warranty by Dell and decent customer support when you need it.
