HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw is a new 2015 model flexible, multifunctional, user friendly, intuitive and easy to operate printer that transfers digital content to paper with great text print quality, useful toner compatibility verification that starts printing quickly after being off standby resulting in awesome quality prints and lets you choose between NFC from a mobile device (tablet or phone), HP ePrint and wireless printing. It is mainly a great printer with positive reviews and seems to be good value for money but you will see the cons listed below that are mainly due to the effort by HP to keep the printer size down. You will find a full black cartridge with a 1500 page yield and intro color cartridges of 700 per cartridge page yield and a one year exchange warranty is included by HP.

White HP MFP M277dw weighs 35.9 pounds and measures 16.5 x 16.4 x 12.7 inches so it is fairly compact in size (41% more compact than last year’s MFP M276nw model), has a somewhat boxy but still quite modern design despite the lack of angles or metal finish. We like the remote cloud-connected printing functionality and NFC printing capability from a smart phone or tablet. It is capable of handling spreadsheets, Word documents, PowerPoint stuff and PDFs pretty well and text turns out sharp and clear and saturation of colour is impressive. Paper tray is a little small if you will be sharing it with a group of people in an office or will be printing very large number of pages, which means you will be loading paper more frequently into its smallish tray that accommodated 150 sheets of paper, which we would expect to be 250-300 sheets for higher volume printing needs (due to compact size). It melts the toner when printing documents and a light smell is possible because of the heat generated so not sure how close on your desk you can keep this unit on your desk but HP claims that the ink is melted at a much lower temperature and using much less energy resulting in power efficiency.

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dwOn the negative side it only accepts real HP toner which may result in pricier printing per page- expect around 10 cents per page for color printing, starts up and prints text slowly- operates somewhat slower overall than one may expect but still at 19 pages per minute and the network scanning setup for Apple- Mac computers can get a little complicated and you may need to dig into its settings a little. If you’re sharing the printer with a group of colleagues at work you will find the JetAdvantage Private Print technology handy  as it will help maintain your privacy by the device keeping your print job in a queue till you go and type in your pin number so your confidential documents will not be picked up by other people at work. With the JetIntelligent technology you will get more prints per cartridge and will print faster. Fast is a relative thing here, when we go through expert and customer reviews what is fast to one person is slow to another, so to make it clear for speed we’re talking about 19 pages per minute. First installation when you take it out of the box is very easy- it will take only about half a minute when it is turned on and calibration takes five minutes as compared to around twenty minutes and up with some other models. You may just want to lift and tilt the auto document feeder at an angle to have easier access to the paper tray- for convenience. Overall it scores 4.4 stars / 5 stars on the day of this review and seems to be quite decent value overall.
