Alienware 17 ANW17-2143SLV 17.3-Inch Laptop

Alienware 17 ANW17-2143SLV is a new 17.3 inch large screen gaming laptop by Dell Alienware with power, performance, speed, great graphics with a very decent GeForce GTX970M graphics card, innovative technology and good looks but is obviously much pricier than a regular notebook due to high tech specs and all the features included in the package. It is a bit heavier than normal and large in size with a 17.3 inch display and 1.35 inch thick chassis so it is not for on-the-go computing but is a premium machine for lag-free gaming and it is well worth the price. Alienware 17 ANW17 comes with the Intel i7 4710HQ processor (6M cache) at 2.5 GHz speed up to 3.50GHz with turbo, 8 GB dual channel (2 x 4GB) DDR3L SDRAM memory at 1600MHz for advanced multitasking, 1TB Serial ATA hard drive at 7200rpm rotating speed to store all your files, 64-bit Windows 8.1 operating system which you may upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge as it is already out on the market.

In terms of screen and multimedia performance you have the 17.3 inch FHD non-touch anti-glare display with 300-nits brightness and 1920×1080 pixel screen resolution with an optional 3D FHD panel for immersive gaming or you can even connect to a FHD monitor or 3D TV, advanced gaming with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M graphics card with 3GB GDDR5 video memory, great picture quality and performance with the fast FXAA antialiasing, NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync to avoid image tearing, NVIDIA PhysX for more realistic and dynamic feeling gaming. You can expect to play the most demanding games of 2015 at high settings, FHD resolution (you can keep it on at all times) and 50-60 frame rates per second easily and you’ll hear cinema quality sound through the stereo speakers with subwoofer powered by Klipsch and Dolby Home Theater v4 for your gaming or other multimedia tasks. It has a 2MP good quality webcam in the screen bezel for problem-free chatting on Skype or taking still shots. Alienware 17 weighs 8.3 pounds and measures 16.93 x 11.49 x 1.35 inches so it is neither lightweight nor slim and compact. The 8-cell 92W hour lithium ion battery offers longer battery life (roughly 4 hours on lighter use) on a single charge, which would be better than many other powerful gaming machines despite all the graphics requirements of the graphics card. It has the English backlit keyboard with 10-key numeric pad, Killer 1525 802.11 A/C wireless for faster internet connection and larger coverage, Gigabit Ethernet with RJ-45, Bluetooth 4.0 tied to wireless card, 4 x USB 3.0 ports, 9-in-1 Media Card Reader, HDMI output and mini DisplayPort for external monitor.

Alienware 17 ANW17-2143SLV Gaming Laptop

Conclusion: Alienware 17 ANW17-2143SLV is a great gaming laptop with top level specs and features and you can have the Windows 10 for free now that it is out- boots up and wakes up from hibernation faster than before, comes with the upgraded version of the Windows 10 start menu, the new Microsoft Edge web browser with great features like typing on a webpage directly, features like Continuum and Cortana as your personal secretary. The thing we see as a con is the lack of a Solid State Drive which is way faster than regular SATA hard drive and there is no Optical DVD drive to create more room for drives and cooling. There is no antivirus software pre-installed which is great and only a trial version of Microsoft Office which you can extend if you intend to use it. This is a fast and powerful machine with a beautiful Full HD screen and amazing sound. Intel i7-4710HQ has a Passmark benchmark score of around 8000 which is a good indication of its speed and power and you will have no problems with running the most demanding software on it as well as the latest games at high settings with the built-in advanced NVIDA GTX 970M graphics. Cooling works efficiently but this is still a powerful gaming laptop, not very lightweight and compact so you’ll use it more like a desktop replacement and will be on your desk so you won’t really feel the heat on your legs. It comes with 8GB memory and the maximum amount supported is 16GB so you can replace those 2 x 4GB sticks with 8GB ones. You will find four M.2 slots for extra drives so you don’t need to take out the 1TB SATA drive to have your SSD. There is no touch function on screen but not many gamers actually look for a touch display so this is definitely not a big loss. It is offered with a 1 year In-Home warranty and is great value for money despite the relatively high price tag.
